Dixie State freshmen Kaitlin Tsukamoto was named to the 2020-21 Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) All-America Scholars awards list on Wednesday.
Tsukamoto (Huntington Beach, Calif./Huntington Beach HS), who carries a 3.94 GPA as a nursing major, also played in four of seven spring team events and finished fifth in stroke average at 80.67. The freshman posted four rounds in the 70s, including back-to-back rounds of 75 (+3) and 76 (+4) en route to a t-34th place finish at the Montana State Bobcat Desert Classic last April in Arizona, and placed 35th overall at the 2021 WAC Championships.
In all, 1,432 women's collegiate golfers across the country were recognized for their academic achievements by the WGCA. To be eligible to become a WGCA All-American Scholar, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.50 cumulative GPA and participate in at least 50 percent of her team's events.

The Women's Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women's collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition. Alumni Spotlight - Vanessa Betancourt
The Big West Conerence held its conference tournament at Yorba Linda Country Club April 19 -21, 2021. Competing in the event were Cal Poly SLO, Long Beach State, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Hawaii, Cal State Bakersfield, Cal State Northridge, and Cal State Fullerton. Our own Vanessa Betancourt, playing for the Highlanders of UC Riverside, walked away with a fourth place finish in the individual category shooting scores of 75, 71, 71, only a mere 3 shotsbehind the champion. It was an incredible performancce, especially for a freshman playing in her first conference tournament!
